Padma Bhushan Ilaiyaraaja,who has scored music for Tamil. Telugu,Kannada,Malayalam and Hindi films,now forays into Marathi cinema as well. The music maestro of the South was in Mumbai,making one of his rarest appearances at an event to announce the Marathi film Hello Jai Hindi! Trupti Bhoir,whose last film was Agadbam where she,for the first time in Marathi,had attempted a fat character with prosthesis,is the producer and actor of Hello Jai Hindi!.
The film is being directed by Gajendra Ahire for R.K,Entertainement Presents. The event was held at a suburban five-star hotel in Mumbai.
Ilaiyaraaja,who has a doctorate from the Trinity College of Music,London,has over 950 films to his credit in a career spanning 30 years. Trupti pointed out that he has not charged a single penny for his work in the film for which he was accompanied by music director Uttam Singh. There are five songs in the voices of Hariharan,Sukhwinder Singh,Anand Shinde and Bela Shende.
Dressed in his trademark mundu (lungi),shirt and shoes,all white,Ilaiyaraaja had the audience spellbound as he spoke in English. He said,I bow my head to the people of Maharashtra,the great land of Sant Tukaram,Sant Dnyaneshwar and Shivaji Maharaj. I never attend functions as my karma is only music. When Gajendra and Trupti came to me to narrate the story,I accepted it as I wanted to experience the Marathi language too. Gajendra is a wonderful director while Trupti,as the name itself suggests,means satisfaction. So she will do a good job of the film When asked about the experience of doing a Marathi film,he stated,I do not find any difference. In Tamil,it is sa re ga ma pa. And it is sa re ga ma pa in Marathi.
Hello Jai Hindi! is set in Mumbai and has art direction by Nitin Chandrakant Desai. While the script and the rest of the cast is being finalised,Gajendra announced that the film will release in November.
