On a whistlestop tour to three cities in Gujarat to give a push to NSUI’s enrollment drive among college students,Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said on Friday that though he entered politics as a Gandhi family scion,“I now have an identity of my own”.

Addressing college students at Hemu Gadhvi Hall in Rajkot,Rahul said,“I may have entered politics as a member of the Gandhi family but now I have my own identity.”

In another such interaction in Ahmedabad,which was off-limits for the media,the Amethi MP was asked to name some Congressmen who still had integrity. “It is a long list — Manmohan Singh,A K Antony,P Chidambaram,Jairam Ramesh… there is a long list of honest Congressmen,” he is reported to have said. Rahul’s interactions with select college students were held in public halls in Ahmedabad,Rajkot and Vadodara and barring B K Hariprasad and Meenakshi Natrajan and a few local NSUI leaders,no Congress leaders were present during these sessions.

Students were reported to have quizzed Rahul on his political career,his stand on reservation and development.

Asked about his party being mired in scams,he said,“There is corruption. But I invite youths to join politics and fight it.”
