The Kerala High Court on Thursday rejected senior CPM leader M M Manis petition seeking to quash the case registered against him following the controversial speech on the partys history of murdering rebels.
Rejecting the plea,a single Bench of the court said Manis speech sounded the death knell of democracy.
His boast about the murders was a challenge to the legal system and a shock to civilized society. It was an infringement upon the right to live, the court said.
The government told the court that Mani had mentioned about 13 murders, but named only three victims. Hence, the government had the right to probe into the other incidents as well.
