Senior IPS officer Tomin J Thachankary,facing charges of going on a foreign trip without prior permission,was on Saturday suspended from service pending inquiry. The action was taken on orders from Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan,officials said.
Thachankary,Kannur range IG,had been removed from the post on Friday based on the report of DGP Jacob Punnoose that there was clear violation of service rules during his recent visit to Gulf countries. The government also had not given him any other posting while ordering his removal from the current post.
Earlier in the day,Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had said that the government was exploring further disciplinary action against the IPS officer.
