Gujarat cop Sanjiv Bhatt is arrested

Sanjiv Bhatt was arrested following a police constable’s complaint.

Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt,the first official to file an affidavit against Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots case,was arrested Friday following a police constable’s complaint saying Bhatt had forced him to testify before the amicus curiae in the case,Raju Ramachandran.

Bhatt was picked up from his residence on Friday afternoon and charged with fabricating evidence,threatening a public servant and wrongful confinement.

Meghaninagar police constable Karansinh Bahadur Pant,who worked as an assistant intelligence officer under Bhatt in 2002,had lodged a complaint at Ghatlodia police station on June 23 saying that Bhatt had forced him to sign an affidavit ‘affirming’ that Bhatt was present in the meeting at Modi’s residence after the Sabarmati carnage in 2002.
