A provincial police service (PPS) officer, who was posted as deputy SP in Amethi district till Monday, has been booked for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl, police said on Tuesday.
Vipul Kumar Srivastava was transferred from the post of circle officer of Musafirkhana in Amethi late Monday and was appointed as deputy SP in Crime Branch-CID at Lucknow, after an FIR was lodged against him under IPC 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Amethi SP Hira Lal said an FIR was lodged at the Mahila Police Station Monday on the complaint of the girl,a resident of Musafirkhana area where Srivastava was posted.
The girls father said that she accidentally got in touch with Srivastava in September when she dialled his official number while saving it in her mobile phone along with the numbers of other government officials. He alleged that Srivastava repeatedly called on his daughters mobile for two days and later started talking to her. He claimed he promised to marry her and get her a job.
He said his daughter, who passed class 12 this year, was asked by Srivastava to go to Lucknow to join a job last month. Srivastava took her to a hotel in Lucknow on November 24 and raped her. She was kept in the hotel for over four hours, he said.
While Srivastava could not be reached, the girls father alleged that the deputy SP did not provide any job to his daughter and instead threatened to get her family members killed if she divulged anything about her harassment. It was after she reached home that she told us about the threats from Srivastava that we approached the police, said the father.
In Lucknow,IG (Special Task Force) Ashish Gupta said further action will be taken as per the findings of the investigation.
