Geelani re-elected as chairman of Hurriyat arm

The members also chose the advisory council of the separatist party which was formed in 2004.

Tereek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) has re-elected Syed Ali Shah Geelani as its chairman for the fourth consecutive term on Sunday. The members also chose the advisory council of the separatist party which was formed in 2004.

At the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat meeting in Srinagar,669 members participated in the election process. Geelani bagged 590 votes,while Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai,his deputy in the organization,could only manage 66.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat was formed by Geelani on August 7,2004 after differences with his parent organization Jamat-e-Islami. The party was,however,floated with the consent of Jamat leadership.
