The gap between cost of electricity and realisation of revenue has reached about Rs 2 per unit,causing heavy loss to the two state power utilities– Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.
This was stated by Devender Singh,Chairman and Managing Director of the corporations said here today in a meeting of public representatives and power distribution management,an official release said.
The meeting was attended by over 100 public representatives,including former power minister Sampat Singh and other officials.
Singh said efforts should be made by all the officers jointly as a team to improve financial health of the Nigams.
“It can be achieved only by taking extra efforts individually by each of the officials by realising the maximum revenue in their area and reducing the losses,” he said.
The CMD asked the officers to improve the performance by making more efforts to bring down the level of aggregate technical and commercial losses.
He said there is a need to launch intensive campaigns against theft of electricity and for recovery of defaulting amount.
Attributing problems relating to power supply mainly to theft of electricity,non-payment of bills and unauthorised extension of load,Singh urged public representatives to co-operate and persuade people to eliminate these menaces.
He said that a culture has to be created to use electricity only through meter and theft of power should be taken as a social stigma.
The distribution companies are commercial organisations that purchase electricity and sell in retail at rates fixed by regulators. It cannot sustain for long facing losses,he said.
MLA Sampat Singh said besides eliminating corruption it is necessary to make employees efficient performers and courteous in dealing with consumers.
