Neetu Chandra hails from a family of sports buffs. While her father loved cricket, her mother enjoyed basketball. The actress talks about her passion for outdoor sports.
Basketball
I love playing basketball. I was passionate about it since my early schooling days. My friends and I enjoyed a game of basketball in the rain. Sports give me an adrenaline rush. In Mumbai,I play with my friends at a ground close to my home. I do not enjoy playing with newcomers as their knowledge of the game is limited. I have also participated in the All Star Game,a national level basketball tournament.
Jogging in the jungle
The other day,my family and I wanted to go on a short getaway. So we decided to head to Pune to meet my cousins. On our way,I hopped down at a place that had lush greenery and huge mountains. I just couldnt resist so I took my younger brother along. We started jogging and explored the whole place together. Even local people joined us and they showed us different insects and amazing birds that were orange and pink in colour. Since then,I have started exploring jungles with my friends.
Rock climbing
I always wanted to try this sport as when you do rock climbing, your arms have to take all your body weight. I wanted to test my muscular power so when I was shooting for No Problem in South Africa,I went to Durban for it. They made me wear the gear that had ropes attached to my waist to make me feel safe. When I started doing it,it felt good but after a while it takes all the energy from you. I got so tired that I felt like quitting right in the middle. But it was fun and I would like to try doing it all over again.
Martial arts
I have been practising Taekwondo since 12 years. I am a black-belt second band. I have taken part in various championships, and have also been to Korea and Philippines to participate in various championships.
Driving cars
When I was in school,I used to sit in my dads Maruti car and act as if I was driving it. I always had a fondness for cars. But my feet would not reach the accelerator and the clutch. Then,I shifted my focus to cycling. I realised that I am missing speed,I wanted something fast and furious. While my classmates flaunted their craze for Lady Bird (a popular girls cycle brand) I always had this thing for bikes. I became friends with guys to ride their Yamaha and Honda. I took part in the car tournaments that happen in Delhi. Once I won a second prize in the girls racing event. Now that I am in Mumbai,I am missing it all as there is so much of traffic here. Thanks to the Bandra-Worli sea link. I tell my driver to take the backseat while I drive.
