Gadchiroli: Former forest dept staffer held for Naxal links

Police seized 24 walkie-talkie sets that he was allegedly taking to a Naxal group camping in the jungles.

The Gadchiroli police Tuesday arrested a former forest department employee and seized 24 walkie-talkie sets that he was allegedly taking to a Naxal group camping in the jungles of Sironcha in the district.

Dhananjay Padishalwar was caught in Rompalli forest area. “We had information about some suspicious movement. The man was caught during a search operation,” said Gadchiroli SP Suvez Haq.

“We had information of possible arms and ammunition supply too. But that didn’t seem to have materialised. We are, however, tracing the man’s links,” Haq said.

Asked where Padishalwar had got the walkie-talkie sets from,Haq said: “We have traced it to a general store in Aheri.” Padishalwar was a forest guard 10 years ago and had been executing some road contracts in the area for the last few years,Haq said.
