Freight rates to rise from Oct 1

Railways will revise its freight rates in October as per the announcement made in the Rail Budget this year for a periodic review of the tariffs based on input cost trends. The first such exercise may happen on October 1 resulting in an increase in the rate at which the national operator transports goods. Railway MoS Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury told reporters Tuesday that the fuel adjustment component of the freight will be up for review and going by increase in the diesel cost inputs,there were chances of a hike,even though he did not specify the quantum of the jump.
