A week ago,30-year-old singer Beyonce Knowles was spotted vacationing with hubby Jay Z on her birthday revealing her pregnancy bump in a white two-piece bikini. She’s not the only one. Hollywood celebrities including Kate Hudson,Alicia Key and Jessica Alba have all flaunted their baby bumps in swimsuits,as the trend in Hollywood is to bare your burgeoning tummy in a bikini. Gone are the days when being pregnant meant dressing down and sporting oversized clothes.
Today the mantra is: If you have a baby bump, flaunt it and Bollywood belles are taking a cue from their western counterparts. When Konkona Sen Sharma and Tara Sharma were expecting, they had appeared on magazine covers flaunting their pregnant tummy. The desi girls are adding a bit of local flavour to the trend. While Hollywood celebrities seem to be embracing lycra when they are pregnant,Bollywood celebrities love wearing what’s comfortable and looks good. Amrita Arora Ladak,Malaika Arora Khan and Tara Sharma have shown us how you can be dressed to the nines for nine months of your pregnancy. When the stork came visiting Amrita Arora Ladak, the actor revamped her wardrobe with maternity wear that was comfortable yet stylish. Amrita was once spotted with dark blue leggings and a long T-Shirt that made her look comfortable and chic. On another occasion, she sported a lovely knee-length lycra dress that hid her burgeoning baby bump. With her high-heels,the actor joined the ranks of celebrities like Victoria Beckham and Rachel Zoe who continued to wear high-heels during their pregnancy while many moms opted for flats to cope with their swollen ankles. As for Konkona, she hid her baby bump behind layers of clothes. For a movie premiere, she was spotted in a navy blue T-shirt,a shirt worn over it and loose maternity pants. Konkona also made it to the front cover of a lifestyle magazine dressed in a bright green top with her tummy button sticking out.
But it is the Anarkali dress that is a staple among all pregnant mothers. Kajol,Maanyata Dutt,Konkona and Karisma Kapur have all worn the traditional attire to cover their baby bump as the layered Anarkalis are the best way to make a bump invisible to the prying eyes. Kajol even stuck to the Anarkali look post her pregnancy.
Model-turned-actor Lara Dutta, who recently revealed that she was pregnant, has proved that simple cuts and flowing dresses are a great way to cover the tummy. While fashion critics have always urged pregnant women to steer clear of light colours,Dutta challenged the popular notion with her baby pink lehenga-choli when she walked the ramp at a couture week. Years ago,Malaika showed her fans that one simply can’t go wrong with a dark colour when she strode the ramp in a chocolate brown figure-hugging gown sporting her baby bump.
