Faking news

It seemed that Team Anna was finally shedding its coyness about fighting elections. A tweet from Arvind Kejriwal seemed to ask the people whether they would really vote for his team if it stood for elections. During the day,the matter seemed to have been finalised as another tweet from Kerjiwal asserted that Team Anna would indeed contest elections from here on. Just as it started to create some buzz, came the dampener. Kejriwal, like many others before him,had been a victim of someone having created a fake account in his name.

Off The Rails

The Palace on Wheels experience is high on luxury, and famously so,but a recent incident left its travelers quite upset. The train is said to have parked itself in the dead of night at a remote location a situation that many of the trains inhabitants found very dangerous. Worse still, the location happened to be stinking badly,as some of the occupants who ventured out to smoke, experienced. Upset, some of the passengers of the luxury train, whose tickets are very highly priced, are learnt to have complained to the Tourism Ministry of their rather un-luxurious experience.

Kolkata Calling

Union minister Dinesh Trivedi would like to initiate big policy reforms in the Railways,if only news reporters, especially those belonging to the Bengali press, allow him to,that is. At a recent FICCI function,Trivedi was overheard chiding a few Bengali-speaking mediapersons, telling them how every time they write something mischievous about reforms he intends to initiate,he immediately gets a reprimanding call from Kolkata from who else, but Mamata di. He pleaded with the journalists to restrict themselves to reporting facts and not harm the interests of the Railways by indulging in mischievous reporting.

Crash Landing

As the news of French firm Dassaults selection for the multi-billion dollar Air Force deal spread like wildfire on Tuesday afternoon, two interesting events took place. While Dassaults shares went up by 22 per cent, its international website crashed under the pressure of millions of hits by users presumably a large number of them from India keen to check out the aircraft that will power the Indian Air Force in the future.

Heavy Concession

With the Election Commission getting stricter in its attempt to ensure free and fair elections, there is one generous concession it has made to political parties contesting in Uttar Pradesh. It has allowed every recognised party to use up to five vehicles for transporting its publicity materials to different parts of the state. Earlier, only one vehicle could be used for this purpose. The generosity has come after some political parties pleaded with the EC that considering the size of the state, such a restriction was not practical. The EC graciously agreed and granted this exemption, only for Uttar Pradesh.
