In a late evening operation on Friday,the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a disproportionate assets case against the former General Manager (GM) of the North Western Railway,Ashok Gupta (60). Gupta retired on August 31 this year. CBI officials said that property and cash worth Rs 4 crore has already been recovered from his possession and raids are still being carried out at five places in Delhi and Gurgaon. Officials said that Ashok Gupta made money while he was GM in North Western Railway from March 2007 till August 2009 by taking bribes. He has acquired all this money and property after 2006 .. he started increasing his wealth after he joined as GM in North Western Railway in March 2007, said an official. The Jaipur CBI team conducted searches and lodged an FIR against Gupta. He is at present being questioned and efforts are being made to know about his properties in other cities, said an official. A source said,He took money from new recruits in the Railway for confirming their jobs in Jaipur and other places. He also reportedly operated from Baroda House in New Delhi. Sources said that they had received several complaints against Gupta in the last few months and they are now analysing his call records and his meetings at his office in Jaipur and Delhi. The CBI has recovered property and cash of over Rs 4 crore in his name. These include a house at Palam Vihar in Gurgaon worth Rs 2 crore,a flat at Panchvati Group Housing in Vikaspuri worth Rs 30 lakh,two flats in Celebrity Home Apartments in Palam Vihar worth Rs 40 lakh each,an office in Palam Vyapar Kendra in Gurgaon,18 bank accounts,jewellery worth Rs 14 lakh,shares worth Rs 10 lakh,Rs 1 lakh cash,and fixed deposits worth Rs 12 lakh.
