The Auraiya police on Monday recovered BSP MLA Shekhar Tiwari’s Tata Safari which was allegedly used in the murder of PWD engineer M K Gupta on December 23. The vehicle was found abandoned in Qayamganj area of Farrookhabad district,following the accused MLA’s interrogation. The MLA’s wife,Vibha Tiwari,a co-accused in the case,belongs to Qayamganj.

Three other vehicles — a Santro,a Honda City and a Tavera — used in the crime have already been recovered by the police.

Inspector General,Kanpur Zone,B P Singh said: “The vehicle probably was parked at some house in the area; it was taken out and abandoned one or two days back. The MLA revealed during interrogation last night that his Safari was left in Farrookhabad. Subsequently,a police team went there and recovered it today.”

“Action would be initiated for helping the accused in concealing the evidence if it is found that any person had kept the vehicle,” the IG said.

He also said the MLA had gone to the Gangotri guesthouse in Gail Vihar Colony in the Tata Safari on the night of December 23. He used the same vehicle to drive to the engineer’s residence and bring him to the guesthouse. DIG,Kanpur Range,S N Sabat said the police had recovered clin-ching evidence from Gupta’s house and the guesthouse.

Meanwhile,the police are still looking for Vibha Tiwari. The Ghaziabad police detained her brothers — K K Shukla and S K Shukla — for a few hours and interrogated them about the possible hideouts of their absconding sister.
