Over 10 years after the murder of a manager of a nationalised bank by dacoits in Uttar Pradesh, the Madras High Court has come to the aid of the family and directed the bank to provide suitable employment to the son of the victim. The HC passed the order hearing a petition filed by the wife and son of K Veerarajan, who was killed by dacoits in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh in 2001. Holding that there was no merit in banks ground that it will not consider the job claim as the ex gratia has already been paid, the court observed that officials of Syndicate Bank, under one pretext or other, turned a deaf ear to the pleading of the employees family. Such an imprudent and hard hearted approach on the part of the bank, which is an instrumentality of the state,is clearly opposed to Articles 38,39 and 41 of the Constitution, the court said.
