Talat Ahmad,a professor at the department of Geology in Delhi University,has been appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University. Prof Ahmad,who takes over from Riyaz Punjabi,will join the university on June 1. Punjabis term ended this January. Even though there were probable candidates for the post from the Kashmir University,the governments search committee went for a V-C from outside the state. Prof Ahmad has been a surprise choice and is the second V-C to be appointed from outside the state in the past two decades. Earlier,Jalees Ahmad Khan Tareen of Mysore was the KU V-C from 2001 to 2004.
