It was a day of drama outside the residence of Tarun Tejpal on Friday after the Goa Police registered a case of rape against the Tehelka magazine founder. With about 50-60 media persons and a crowd of locals gathering outside his residence,the family called the police control room in the evening and asked for security.
Sources said it was Tejpals wife who called the police and said that since her husband was not at home and there was a commotion outside her house,she perceived a security threat to the family. Following the distress call,three police officials from the Jangpura police post visited the house and spoke to the family. It is learnt that Tejpal was not present and one of the relatives told the police that media persons should leave the family alone.
Till late Friday night,the Goa police were yet to reach Tejpals residence.
Kishen Kumar,DGP (Goa),said,Our team will probably reach Delhi and start investigation tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
DIG OP Mishra of the Goa police,meanwhile,said the police were conducting preliminary investigations. There are rumours going on. Our team has not started from Goa. We are conducting our investigation, he said.
On Friday afternoon,the Goa police had an unofficial verbal communication with the Delhi Police Crime Branch and informed them that a team would reach Delhi soon. But police sources said that till late Friday night,the Goa police were yet to confirm their flight details with the Crime Branch.
The Goa police is likely to take Tejpal to Goa for questioning.
Meanwhile,there were protests outside the Tehelka office in GK II in south Delhi. About 20-25 members of the ABVP burned copies of the magazine demanding Tejpals arrest. Sources said most of the employees did not show up for duty on Friday,and only three-four employees were present.
