Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr. K. Rosaiah invited and honoured ace violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam and his wife,singer Kavita Krishnamurthi Subramaniam at a special ceremony in Hyderabad.The ceremony was held to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium and the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam performed a few numbers from an upcoming Rabindra Sangeet album dedicated to Tagore.Kavita Krishnamurthi-Subramaniam made her debut on stage with giants like Manna Dey and Hemant Kumar,started as a dubbing artiste for Laxmikant-Pyarelal in Manmohan Desai's Chacha Bhatija. She made her independent debut with their Maang Bharo Sajna in 1980 and followed it up with breakthroughs in Pyar Jhukta Nahin and Mr India for them as well. She also sang for Viju Shahs Mohra and R.D.Burmans 1942-A Love Story.Dr L. Subramaniam,as a Carnatic violin maestro and composer of international repute,is no less distinguished. He has also co-authored books on music,owns a music label (Viji Records) and has composed music for movies like Salaam Bombay and Missisippi Masala.Both the artistes have been honoured with the Padma Shri. Sukhwinder Singh live in WashingtonSukhwinder Singh will be performing live with an ensemble of leading Indian film musicians at the DAR Constitution Hall on June 5. Local impresario Puneet Ahluwalia,who is promoting Singh's show in Washington DC,is excited over the initial response of the Indian diaspora living in the Washington DC metropolitan area. "Sukhwinder Singh is bigger than the limits that are put on him. It all has to do with the individual journey of this great international singer and music director," states Ahluwalia.Ahluwalia is simultaneously promoting a new reality talent show Your Minutes Of Fame. For the first time ever,talented individuals from the South Asian diaspora are being provided a platform to exhibit many different talents like juggling,magic tricks,stand-up comedy and beat-boxing,aside from singing and dancing acts. The winner will be given the unique opportunity to perform at the Sukhwinder Singh concert.Sukhwinder Singh,who made his debut with Karma (1986) shot to fame with Chhaiyya chhaiyya in Dil Se (1998). This song was also used for the title credit of his Hollywood film Inside Man. Sukhwinder acquired more international fame for the award winning song Jai ho from Slumdog Millionaire.From the 80s (Yateem) till today,Sukhwinder has been a frontline singer and has also been a lyricist (beginning with the 1989 Biwi No.1) and composer (beginning with the 1994 Sarhad).
