DIG files complaint against Maharashtra DGP,Home Secy over promotion

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) Shashikant Shinde has filed a police complaint seeking action against the state Director General of Police and Home Secretary under the Prevention of Atrocities Act for allegedly conspiring to deny him promotion on the grounds that he belonged to the reserved category.

The complaint was filed about 10 days ago. A senior police officer told The Indian Express,“We received the complaint that he (Shinde) was denied promotion by the DGP and the Home Secretary because he belonged to the reserved category. We didn’t have any jurisdiction over it so we sent it to the ADGP (PCR),with a copy being sent to the DGP’s office.”

In the complaint,Shinde referred to his promotion to the post of DIG (prisons) for which,he said,he was declared ineligible till a review committee granted him the post in 2010. An order to the effect,however,was brought out only after six months,that too in the non-cadre category when the cadre position was vacant,he reportedly alleged.

Shinde didn’t respond to repeated phone calls by The Indian Express for comment.
