Describing it as special circumstances, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the state and Tihar Jail officials to technically examine an iPad and ensure it cannot be misused before it could be handed over to Asif Balwa, one of the accused in 2G scam who has requested for the instrument for reading 80,000 pages of chargesheet filed against him by the CBI. While the counsel for the state government opposed the request,Justice S Muralidhar said governments IT department could be asked to first examine the iPad sought to be used by Balwa. These are special circumstances. How can he carry 80,000-page chargesheet everyday? You (authorities) will have to do something, noted the judge as governments counsel Zubeda Begum claimed that there was a strong possibility of Balwa misusing it by clandestinely installing a chip enabling Internet. Justice Muralidhar, however, asked them to make sure that the iPad cannot be used for any communication purposes and added in case of any misuse, the authorities could withdraw it. You (Balwas counsel) hand over the iPad to the Law Officer tomorrow and he would get it checked that it cannot be tampered with and then submit a report in the court on Friday, ordered the judge. On Balwas second request for allowing him home-cooked food, the court said he could be permitted to have it only twice in a week in the court lock-up.
