In a letter written to Supreme Court-appointed SIT chief R K Raghavan, former Gujarat DGP R B Sreekumar has asked why four affidavits submitted by him have not been considered as evidence before reportedly giving clean chit to CM Narendra Modi.
In his letter on November 30,Sreekumar pointed out that his statement was not recorded despite the fact that he submitted four affidavits to SIT,which he had also given to Nanavati Commission earlier. The SIT led by Raghavan is probing the 2002 riot cases as well as into the petition filed by slain former MP Ehsan Jafris wife Zakia Jafri in which she named Modi among others as accused.
While Sreekumars statement was recorded in connection with Zakias petition, the former DGP fears the SIT has not considered his affidavits before accepting the arguments of the accused, including Modi,in the case. If contents of my affidavits are removed or invalidated or their evidential utility is nullified, the edifice of the Jafris complaint will collapse like a pack of cards, Sreekumar said in the letter.
He said this was serious because Modi and the other accused had attempted to discredit the Centre for Social Justice, led by Teesta Setalvad, who is fighting the legal cases on behalf of riot victims. Meanwhile,at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, the former DGP indicated he might approach the SC on the matter. Reacting to reports that the SIT had found no proof of Modis complicity in the 2002 violence,Sreekumar, who was then the state intelligence chief, said the leaked information was credible. He alleged the SIT functioned as a B team of Gujarat Police. The SIT had submitted its report to SC on Zakias allegations that Modi and his close aides aided and abetted the post-Godhra carnage in which her husband was killed.
Referring to WikiLeaks exposure that Lashkar-e-Toiba had planned to assassinate Modi,he said,Modi is a threatened person.
