The Commercial helicopter service from Guwahati and Itanagar to Tawang has resumed after a gap of 31 months when it had to be called off in the wake of two successive Pawan Hans crashes, one of which led to the death of then Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Dorjee Khandu.
The resumed service will be a twice-a-week trip from Guwahati and Itanagar to the picturesque town on the China border in western Arunachal Pradesh, with officials saying the resumed air link would provide a much-needed boost to the tourism industry of the state.
Tawang deputy commissioner Abhishek Dev said the resumption of the service will also come as relief to people of the frontier district suffering from major ailments and requiring quick evacuation to Itanagar or Guwahati.
A special prayer service was held at the Tawang monastery to welcome the chopper service.
