Celestial wedding of Meenakshi-Sundareswarar held

Thousands of devotees witnessed the event.

The annual ‘Thirukkalyanam’ (celestial wedding) of Goddess Meenakshi with Lord Sundareswarar at the famous Meenakshi-Sundareswarar Temple was held here this morning..

Amid chanting of Vedic hymns by priests,the wedding was solemnised atop a specially erected dais inside the temple complex. Two ‘Sivacharyas’,representing the bride and the bridegroom performed the rituals as part of the ongoing annual - Chithirai Brahmotsavam — festival.

Thousands of devotees witnessed the event.

The images of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar were later taken out in a procession on a palanquin and a silver elephant to the ‘Thiru Kalyana Mandapam,’ where they will be kept for public darshan.
