Bomb targets NATO team,4 Afghans die

KABUL: A suicide car bomber targeting a NATO-sponsored reconstruction team killed four Afghan civilians,including a child,and wounded 31 on Thursday in southern Afghanistan,officials said. The bomber detonated his explosives-laden vehicle as a convoy of a NATO Provincial Reconstruction Team passed by.

Papua New Guinea general ousted

PORT MORESBY: Rebel soldiers have staged an apparently bloodless mutiny in the Papua New Guinea capital on Thursday and installed a new military leader,a news agency reported. Australian Broadcasting Corp said the rebel troops are loyal to ousted PM Sir Michael Somare,but it is unclear if the mutiny amounts to an attempted coup.

Gunmen target Pak checkpost,5 die

Islamabad: Five paramilitary personnel were killed when gunmen attacked a checkpost in Balochistan on Thursday,officials said. The gunmen opened fire on the checkpost manned by Frontier Corps personnel in Sui area of Dera Bugti district.

Pak troops kill 20 militants

PARACHINAR: A Pakistani government official said security forces have killed 20 militants after coming under attack near the Afghan border. He said 22 troops were also wounded in Thursday’s gunbattle in the Kurram tribal region.
