London: Pakistan and Britain on Friday sought to bury a stormy diplomatic row as Prime Minister David Cameron met Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari,with the two declaring that bilateral ties were based on mutual respect. After a meeting with Zardari at the Chequers country retreat,Cameron said they had discussed how to deepen and enhance their strategic partnership. The two steered clear of any mention of Camerons remarks in India that Pakistan should not be allowed to promote export of terror.

Ratcliffe gives stones to SA authorities

JOHANNESBURG: Naomi Campbells friend said on Friday that he had handed over three small uncut diamonds to South African authorities after the supermodel testified at an international war crimes court that she had given him the dirty-looking stones. A spokesman for the police special investigations unit said Jeremy Ratcliffe handed over the stones on Thursday and that the police have given them to the local diamond regulation authority for examination.

Indonesia volcano spews gas,4 dead

Jakarta: One of Indonesias most active volcanos erupted on Friday day,sending lava and gas clouds tumbling down. At least four people were swept away and feared dead,officials said. It happened so fast, said Surono,director of the volcanology and mitigation agency. Mount Karangetang,located on Siau,part of the Sulawesi island chain,burst just after midnight when heavy rains broke the volcanos hot lava dome,which spit out 1,110-degree-Fahrenheit clouds of gas.

US envoy attends Hiroshima memorial

Hiroshima: The US on Friday attended for the first time a ceremony commemorating the atomic bombing of Hiroshima,65 years after the citys destruction rang in the nuclear age. The United States World War II allies Britain and France,both declared nuclear powers,also sent their first diplomats to the ceremony in the western Japanese city in a sign of support for the goal of nuclear disarmament. The human race must not repeat the horror and misery caused by atomic bombs, said Prime Minister Naoto Kan.
