ISI victim wins right to appeal in UK court

London: A Pakistani origin man,who alleged that he was tortured by the ISI with the complicity of British spy agencies,has won the right to appeal against his terror convictions in a British court. The lawyers of 34-year-old Rangzieb Ahmed,who was convicted for being a member of the banned Islamist terror group Harkat-ul-Mujahideen,argued that British complicity in his unlawful detention and torture by ISI in Pakistan was so great that his conviction should be overturned.

Petraeus vows to spare civilians in Afghan war

Brussels: US Gen David Petraeus pledged on Thursday to give his forces the right firepower to fight the Taliban but insisted that sparing civilian lives remained a priority. Petraeus was at NATO headquarters in Brussels to brief allies before taking up his post in Afghanistan,where a new bout of fighting left at least 31 Taliban dead in Helmand. There are concerns among the ranks of some of our troops on the ground that some of the processes have become a bit too bureaucratic, he said.
