British military had torture unit in Iraq: Report
LONDON: Britains military intelligence ran a secret torture unit in Iraq which reported directly to London and authorised harsh treatment of detainees,a media report said on Sunday. Prisoners were kept hooded for long periods in intense heat and deprived of sleep by military intelligence officers who were answerable only directly to London,The Independent reported.
Volcano in Iceland,hundreds evacuated
REYKJAVIK: A volcano erupted near a glacier in southern Iceland forcing the evacuation on Sunday of hundreds of people from nearby villages. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano,but a state of emergency was declared.

BA cabin crew strikes for second day
LONDON: British Airways cabin crew walked off the job for a second day but the airline says its contingency plans are working well and more planes are taking off than expected. The airline locked in a bitter dispute with workers over pay and working conditions said on Sunday it was able to add in several extra flights because many crew members have ignored the strike call.
China resumes web services in Xinjiang
BEIJING: China has restored email services and access to 32 blocked internet sites in Uyghur-dominated Xinjiang province,eight months after ethnic clashes broke out there,state media reported on Sunday. Restriction on the number of mobile text messages has also been lifted, a spokesperson of the regional government was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
