Taliban kill seven US spies in Pakistan

PESHAWAR: Taliban militants killed seven people in Pakistans restive tribal belt after accusing them of spying for the US on Sunday. Bodies of five of the seven men killed were found in Kum Sarobi the main town in North Waziristan,local media reported. The sixth body was found in Kutab Khel area,10 km southeast of Miranshah,while another was spotted at Haisore village of Mir Ali sub-devision. Pieces of papers found near the bodies said other US spies would meet the same fate.

N Korea warns South against strike

SEOUL: North Korea warned on Sunday it would consider a pre-emptive strike by South Korea as a declaration of war. The Norths also said it would take prompt military action against any South Korean attempt to violate North Koreas sovereignty. Our revolutionary armed forces will regard the scenario for pre-emptive strike, which the South Korean puppet authorities adopted as a state policy, as an open declaration of war, the official Korean Central News Agency quoted General Staff of the Korean Peoples Army as saying.

Afghan Parliament vote postponed

KABUL: Afghanistans independent election commission on Sunday confirmed it is postponing parliamentary elections until the fall due to a lack of funding,security concerns and logistical challenges. Commissioner Fazel Ahmed Manawi said the delay will allow time for electoral reforms.

Oil spilled at Texas port as ships collide

PORT ARTHUR: As much as 450,000 gallons of crude oil may have spilled in a southeast Texas port when two vessels collided Saturday morning,a US Coast Guard official said. No one was injured in the collision,but the port of Port Arthur was closed and some nearby residents were evacuated for about seven hours. The damaged tanker,the Eagle Atome,is owned by AET Tankers,a Malaysian company with offices in Houston.

LOS ANGELES: Jeff Bridges of Crazy Heart and Sandra Bullock of The Blind Side claimed top acting honours at Saturdays Screen Actors Guild Awards. Backstage,Bullock refused to speculate on her Oscar chances in March. Christoph Waltz was best supporting actor for his role in the Inglourious Basterds,while MoNiques got best supporting actress for Precious: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire. The cast of Inglourious Basterds won the award for best ensemble performance.

Researchers at Oxford University have found that while social networking sites allow people to maintain more relationships,the number of meaningful friendships is the same as it has been in history.

Los Angeles: Comedian Andy Dick has been arrested on alleged charges of sexual abuse. The 44-year-old was arrested at a bar on Saturday morning in West Virginia and is in custody at Western Regional Jail,TMZ online reported. He was held for allegedly groping the bouncer.
