80 die of chill in Europe,Eurostar trains resume

LONDON: Cross-Channel Eurostar trains began running between London and continental Europe on Tuesday after four days of cancellations blamed on powdery snow left tens of thousands stranded just before Christmas. Meanwhile,as snowstorms and icy winds continued to sweep Europe,the death toll from the cold jumped to 80. Thousands of people were stranded at airports across Europe and an equal number by the cancellations of trains.

Blast outside Pak press club kills 3

PESHAWAR: At least three persons were killed and 18 others,including journalists,were injured on Tuesday when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the Press Club here,the first such attack targeting scribes in Pakistan which has been rocked by a series of terror strikes in recent months. The bomber detonated his suicide jacket while he was being frisked by a policeman at the gate of the Press Club before noon. NWFP Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said three persons,including the policeman,were killed by the blast.

Musharraf says NRO a mistake

ISLAMABAD: Former President Pervez Musharraf has described as a mistake his decision to promulgate the National Reconciliation Ordinance,a graft amnesty that was recently struck down by Pakistans Supreme Court. The one clarification that I will make is that I committed this mistake on the strong advice of the political leadership at that time who are now blatantly disowning connections with it, Musharraf wrote on his page on the social networking website Facebook.

Dutch teen sailor returns home

AMSTERDAM: Child welfare authorities will request a Dutch court on Tuesday to remove teenage sailor Laura Dekker from her fathers care after she returned to the Netherlands following her disappearance last week. Dekker,14,went missing on Thursday after authorities thwarted her attempt to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world. She was found on the island of St Martin in the Dutch Antilles,off the coast of Venezuela on Sunday.
