MALEGAON: Tension gripped the textile town on Wednesday after six cows were found dead on the side of a road,police said. Social and political activists gathered at the spot on the Malegaon-Manmad road and held a road blockade for about two-and-half hours,they said,adding that the agitators also blocked the Mumbai-Agra National Highway. Many shop owners downed their shutters fearing clashes and a few incidents of stone pelting were also reported from various parts of the city,police said.

SC dismisses sepoy’s pension plea

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has dismissed an Army sepoy’s plea for disability pension as he had not been disabled while performing his duties. A Bench of Justices Dalveer Bhandari and Mukukandakam Sharma said that since the Medical Board had given a clear finding that the disability was not attributable to the discharge of his official duties,he was not entitled to the relief. Sepoy Om Prakash Singh said that he had contracted “Unspecified Psychosis” while serving in the Territorial Army.

Haryana revises pay scales for judiciary

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has revised the pay scales of the State Civil Service (Judicial Branch) and the State Superior Judicial Service which will come into force with effect from January 1,2006. Fifty per cent of the total arrears of the revised pay from January,2006,to June 30,2010,will be paid in cash in the current financial year and the remaining 50 per cent in cash in the next financial year,a release said.

Suspected food poisoning kills 3 kids

THANE: Three children of a family died on Wednesday of suspected food poisoning in Aadivasi Pada hamlet in Titwala town of Thane district,police said. The family members,including the children,consumed ‘pez,’ a liquid diet and complained of severe giddiness,vomiting and other complications. Police said that the children died before they could be taken for treatment.

AG to appear before Jharkhand HC

RANCHI: The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday asked the Attorney General of India to appear in person before it as it was not satisfied with the Centre’s affidavit on why the Delimitation Commission left out Jharkhand during its exercise last year. Hearing a PIL filed by a social worker R K Singh,a division bench asked the Attorney General to appear in person before it within a month.

Court no to narco test in Prajapati case

PALANPUR: The plea by CID to conduct a narco analysis test on two suspended IPS officers,arrested in connection with Tulsi Prajapati encounter case,was rejected by a local court here on Wednesday. CID had sought permission to conduct narco analysis on D G Vanzara and Dinesh M N,saying that they were not cooperating with the police. Defense counsel Rohit Verma said the request for conducting narco test cannot be granted without the consent of the person concerned.

Navi Mumbai airport clearance held up

NEW DELHI: The Environment Impact Report on the proposed Navi Mumbai airport is not clear on several aspects and hence there is no question of giving the project a “green nod” as of now,Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said on Wednesday. He said a team from his Ministry will be sent soon for site inspection to further assess the project.
