BJD leader says sorry for anti-Christ ploy

A local BJD MLA had a blasphemous portrait of Jesus Christ inserted in greeting cards.

Appealing for peace,Christian leaders today said they have accepted an apology from a local BJD MLA over an alleged blasphemous portrayal of Jesus Christ in greeting cards distributed by him which had sparked protests in some areas of the district.

The decision to accept BJD MLA Manohar Randhari’s apology was taken after local church functionaries and community leaders discussed the matter among themselves.

The Bishop of the local JEL Church,Subas Goud,announced acceptance of the legislator’s apology giving him a ‘Spiritual Pardon’.

At a district citizen committee meeting last night,minority community leaders favoured necessary steps to maintain peace.

In Bhubaneswar,BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told reporters that the party legislator had apologised for the incident.

Randhari has already clarified that he had no intention to hurt religious sentiments of Christians and it all happened due to a mistake,Patnaik said.

As a precautionary measure,prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC continued along the National Highway-201.

here would not be any restriction on celebrations inside church premises,Superintendent of Police Niti Sekhar said.
