Assam to set up varsity in Mahatma’s name

“The university will propagate Gandhiji’s ideals and philosophy among the young generation to promote peace and harmony. It will also carry out research with a view of resolving conflicts,” he said after unveiling a Gandhiji statue in the Circuit House premises here.

“If we want to end the violence and save the world,and mankind,we have to follow the footsteps of Gandhiji by adopting ahimsa,” he said.

Gogoi also described “greed” as the root-cause of unrest,criminalization of politics,corruption and moral degradation,and said Gandhiji’s policy of self-containment was the panacea for all these.

“Our wants are unlimited. But we have to remain content with our basic needs and pin down our materialist urge,” he said.
