The Assam government will soon establish a university in the name of Mahatma Gandhi,that will engage in the teaching and study of conflicts as well as peace and harmony,Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said here on

Wednesday.

“The university will propagate Gandhiji’s ideals and philosophy among the young generation to promote peace and harmony. It will also carry out research with a view of resolving conflicts,” he said after unveiling a Gandhiji statue in the Circuit House premises here.

“If we want to end the violence and save the world,and mankind,we have to follow the footsteps of Gandhiji by adopting ahimsa,” he said.

Gogoi also described “greed” as the root-cause of unrest,criminalization of politics,corruption and moral degradation,and said Gandhiji’s policy of self-containment was the panacea for all these.
