Even as several groups including the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) have intensified their agitation against construction of a dam on the Subansiri on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border,an anonymous caller has threatened to blow up the ongoing 2000-MW hydel project. Confirming this,Om Prakash, general manager of the Lower Subansiri Hydro-Electric Project,on Friday said he received the anonymous call including an SMS on December 25,with the caller saying the ongoing project would be blown up if the project work was not stopped. We received this call on December 25,and we immediately filed an FIR at the Gogamukh police station in Dhemaji district. We have also provided the police with the details of the call so that the caller can be identified, Om Prakash told The Indian Express from Gerukamukh, the project site. Dhemaji SP P K Kar said the police have already identified the owner of the mobile phone from which the call was made to the NHPC. We are already working on it and have identified the person, Kar said. The NHPC has also written to the chief secretaries of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh informing about the telephonic threat and asking both governments to take appropriate steps so that no harm was done to the upcoming project.
