Allahabad bomb was set off by remote,circuit board found at spot

While the UP Special Task Force (STF) and Allahabad police are yet to ascertain the motive behind Monday morning’s attack on state minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’,a circuit board recovered from the spot has confirmed that the bomb was triggered by a remote device.

A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL),Agra team collected samples and took away remains of the two-wheeler on which the bomb was kept. The chassis number of the vehicle was not immediately apparent,ADG (Law & Order),Brij Lal said.

Lal said teams of the police and STF were in touch with Naxalism-hit states to investigate the possibility of the involvement of Maoists in the attack.

A senior UP ATS officer said the circuit board is simple — and can be put together by any mechanic with knowledge of electronic goods.

The officer said the bomb was a low-intensity device,and did not contain high explosives like RDX or PETN.

I-G,Allahabad Range,Subesh Kumar Singh,who is supervising the investigation along with his STF counterpart Rajni Kant Misra,said,“We are yet to find out the motive for the attack,or the persons involved.”

The Indian Express Senior Reporter Vijay Pratap Singh,who was injured in the attack,was shifted to a Delhi hospital tonight.

The minister’s bodyguard,Sanjay,was moved to SGPGI,Lucknow. Nandi,who is also at SGPGI,was reported to be stable.
