Singh is likely to convene a meeting tomorrow to consider ways to push these reforms, sources said.

The Prime Minister’s Office sent out a “most immediate” missive today to the ministries of power, coal, steel, mines, petroleum and new & renewable energy — the drivers of the economy — to submit a list of key legislation stuck in parliament. Sources said the ministries were directed to send,by this evening,a list of “all important matters pending before standing committees” so that these could be hastened.

Besides easing fiscal tightness, the government plans to undertake “urgent” measures to encourage investment in the infrastructure sector. Data released today showed that though industrial output grew by 3.5 percent in April-October,it shrunk by 5.1 percent in October from a year earlier.
