With the Supreme Court giving the go-ahead to unlock the Rs 11,000 crore lying idle in the Compulsory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) for several years,the Centre will release the first instalment to eight states on Tuesday. The release of funds will coincide with the first-ever meet of environment ministers of states convened by the Centre to discuss coordinated action on issues ranging from climate change,wildlife management,modernisation of state forest departments,cleaning and conservation of rivers and lakes,and afforestation drives. Uttarakhand,Haryana,Madhya Pradesh,Chhattisgarh,Karnataka,Sikkim,Goa,Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Assam will get the first instalment as these states have opened their CAMPA accounts.
