Four of a family were crushed to death when heavy rain felled the roof of their house at Adityanagar in Hyderabad Saturday. Police said a woman,her two daughters and son were sleeping when the roof collapsed around 4 am killing them on the spot. Five persons were killed when the wall of a factory in Balanagar Industrial Estate collapsed on them. Three of the victims were salesmen from Madhya Pradesh. Hyderabad and Secunderabad received 155 mm rainfall in 12 hours,something that has not been witnessed in over a decade,officials said. Many areas in the city were inundated in the incessant rain. Several main roads in the city were flooded and municipal workers had to remove manhole and stormwater drain covers,prompting the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to issue an alert asking people not to venture out unless necessary. Basements and cellars of most buildings in Hyderabad were flooded while civic workers struggled to drain out water from low-lying areas where homes were flooded.
