71-year-old lifer dies in jail scuffle

A 71-year-old man,Bachittar Singh,serving a life term in a triple murder case,died in Sangrur jail after a scuffle with some inmates.

A 71-year-old man,Bachittar Singh,serving a life term in a triple murder case,died in Sangrur jail on Thursday after a scuffle with some inmates.

According to the police,Singh,a resident of Gwara village who was in jail since 1999,had a disagreement with some inmates over lowering the volume of the television. A case under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC has been lodged against two inmates. “Circumstantial evidence and eyewitness accounts suggested that Singh was hit in the sensitive body organs. We are awaiting the medical report,” said Sangrur DSP (Rural) Swaran Singh.
