Three cousins, two of them minors — all belonging to the Scheduled Caste — were hacked to death while they were sleeping,in Manthodi village of Jhajjar district in the early hours of Monday. The victims are Sonu,20,Narendra,16,and Manjit,10.

While Sonu worked as a bus conductor,Narender was a Class 10 student. Manjit,a student from Delhi, had come to spend his vacations at Sonu’s house. The three cousins were sleeping in their cowshed,a few metres from Sonu’s house, when they were attacked in the middle of the night.

Jhajjar SP Patram Singh said preliminary investigations indicated that Sonu might have been the prime target. He said the victims’ private parts had been chopped off, indicating that it might have been an honour killing. The post-mortem report said two different weapons were used for killing the trio. “It could be the handiwork of more than one person. We are investigating,” said DSP Rajiv Deswal.
