Police have arrested four persons in south Kashmir in connection with the death of a 24-year-old man,who was attacked by a stone-pelting mob for defying the strike call Friday.
Riyaz Ahmad,who sustained serious head injuries in the attack,died at a Srinagar hospital late Monday night.
The police said a mob started pelting Ahmad with stones at Tikibagh,Mattan for defying the strike call on Friday. Police had imposed curfew in many parts of the Valley on the day,as Muttahida Majlis-e-Mashawarat (MMM),an amalgam of separatist organisations that has started issuing weekly protest calendar after the death of Afzal Guru,had called for protests across Kashmir on that day.
DIG,South Kashmir,Vijay Kumar told The Indian Express that Ahmad was driving a vehicle while three others were traveling along with him when stone throwers attacked the vehicle. Kumar said Ahmad died in the hospital Monday. Four persons have been arrested and remanded in seven days custody. Search is on for two other persons, he said.
