Endorsing the views expressed in your moving editorial (Wisdom of the helmsman), December 11, permit me to add a few of my thoughts, as one whose heart is larger than his life span, at 80. My heart bled when I read about Satyendra Dubey, martyred at the altar of honesty in public administration, and rightly highlighted by The Indian Express, a duty well done. But, may I add that it was not the first time that my heart bled profusely. My soul wept when I read of the massacre of the innocent Kar Sevaks which included children, in a train coach, in Godhra. It wept even more — with tears of blood, when I read about the ‘‘revenge mass murders’’ through out my Gujarat. It matters little, whether the victim professed one faith or another. The only thing that mattered to my mind and heart was the immense tragedy of otherwise sensible members of our society. A law must be enacted by the ‘‘Will of the People’’ to protect those who will fight for a worthy cause. We must create a legal framework, which will enshrine ‘‘Freedom from Fear,’’ rightly advocated by your editorial. We, the people, want firm action, not distant assurances from our Parliamentarians. Parimal Y Mehta It is definitely satisfying to we see thousands of readers expressing their voice through the Satyendra Dubey murder campaign. The murder has once again proved how lawless our country is and has exposed once again the prevailing goondaraj. But what will be the result of all this? A special investigation team will be set up which will take at least 5-6 years or even more or investigate the case and by then, since public memory is very weak, the tempo, the stamina seen in the outrage today, may not be the same. The basic problem is the flaws in our laws. Moreover, who can say the SIT will not come under any political influence? K Vora It's indeed encouraging to see the High Court lambasting the counsel and the officials of the state for their rather indifferent submissions and responses. I do hope the respected judges will maintain this intense pressure until things take a turn for the better in Bihar. Suresh Kumar I would like to know about the criminals who killed an honest IPS official about 4-5 years ago in a Dhanbad coal field. He was too honest and took up cudgels to fight against the coal mafia singlehandedly. Can the The Indian Express let us know if anything was done about it? I am pessimistic about anything coming out of the investigations and Commissions into Dubey's murder. Wani V The Patna High Court judges who has questioned the Bihar Government on security of NHAI engineers does not seem to be reading The Indian Express. IE's total reporting was based on only one theory, i.e. PMO leaked name of Satyendra. It apparently and may be deliberately ignored the law and order situation in Bihar. One thing IE and most of readers has been ignoring was that leaking of Satyendra's name was not at all required for killers of Dubey to know that he is honest and is a roadblock for their corrupt ways. I don’t think this feedback would be published but I know this is a fact. PureVision
