As our brave commandos and police personnel were working towards countering the terror strike that hit the financial capital, Newsline met some residents who said they stand solidly behind fellow Indians

“I have been to many of these places where the attacks have taken place. I have also stayed in the grand Taj Mahal Hotel, and it hurts to see its dome in flames. But what pains the most is the fact that the terrorists have been there for more than 48 hours now. Why couldn’t we stop them? The whole nation demands better security from the government.”

“Mumbai is every Indian’s pride and when they hit where it hurts the most, we know it is time we stand together and retaliated in the same force. We are all directly or indirectly hurt by the tragedy which is by far the biggest, the longest and the deadliest that India has ever faced. We hope it is the last though. But our hopes can materialise only when the government understands the need to be practical and stops being a soft state when it comes to anti-terror policy. The police and the intelligence need to be strengthened and coordinated in their effort to tackle terror.”

“They (terrorists) have been brainwashed against India and what we stand for and do not represent any religion. The government needs to strenghen our intelligence services and anti-terror forces so well that we are able to stop their growth at their training schools where they get all the lessons in hate.”

“The electronic media should learn to exercise restrain over what they should or should not show during such crisis. While one channel says the information regarding the commandos is not being revealed for security reasons, the other blurts it out . How can they expect the commandos to do their operation smoothly when they are revealing all the information .”

“It can happen anywhere, and we or our relatives are also as prone to such attacks. My parents are in Dubai and they are worried about what is happening in India. We are scared but we should use this fear to scare them and nip them in the bud. The only way we can counter such attacks is by staying together and united, it is not about religion, it is about India.”
