The row over mysterious death of a Muslim computer graphic artist, who had married the daughter of a Hindu industralist, got murkier with a West Bengal minister alleging a ‘big role’ of the deceased’s father-in-law in 2006 CAB President’s election contested unsuccessfully by present Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee.

”There had been a relation between Ashok Todi (father-in-law of Rizwanur Rehman) and the cricket world of Kolkata and incidentally Prasun Mukherjee is now the CAB President,” PWD minister Kshiti Goswami said.

”There are allegations that Ashok Todi, now being interrogated by the CID in the Rizwanur death case, was involved in the 2006 CAB president’s election, which Mukherjee contested unsuccessfully,” he told reporters.

Goswami said the judicial probe should cover all issues pertaining to Todi’s connection with the CAB ”of which the Kolkata police chief is the president.”

He said questions had also been raised about alleged involvement of former Bengal cricketer Snehasish Ganguly in the case as he had admitted to having introduced Todi to the Police Commissioner.

”Considering all these points, I will hope that the inquiry Commission will cover them,” Goswami said.

When contacted, the police chief said ”I don’t think anybody played any big role in the CAB President’s election in 2006.

”Such allegations are tantamount to insulting CAB members.” Mukherjee said.
