PERTH, November 21: Mark Waugh celebrated his return to form with one of the biggest sixes hit at the WACA as Australia took control of the second cricket Test against New Zealand today. The Waugh twins - Mark and Steve - hammered half centuries and shared a rollicking 153-run stand to take Australia to 235 for four at stumps on a rain interrupted second day.Persistent rain robbed 183 minutes of play either side of the lunch break, reducing play to a minimum of 59 overs.Mark Waugh was dismissed for 86 while Steve was unbeaten on 79 with night watchman Ian Healy three not out.Mark Waugh, in danger of losing his Test place after a series of low scores, hoisted left arm spinner Daniel Vettori on to the roof of the five-storey, 35-metre tall Lillee-Marsh stand. The shot rocketed at least 130 metres over long-on before nestling on the roof for a lost ball.``It just happened. I wanted to be aggressive against Vettori after being at the crease for a while,'' Mark Waugh said of his six. ``When I hit it I didn't think it was going to be that big. It just kept going.''The ball was replaced three minutes later and the fourth wicket pair continued to pummel the hapless New Zealanders, who dropped two catches to add to a series of misfields.Only West Indian Viv Richards had clobbered a six out of the ground. That shot, in 1974, landed on the nearby street but came before the new stand was built 10 years ago.Steve Waugh was dropped by skipper Stephen Fleming at first slip when 40 and two overs later Mark Waugh was dropped off a no-ball by Bryan Young at second slip when 38. Both came off left-arm seamer Geoff Allott.Mark fell to a brilliant leg side catch by 'keeper Adam Parore after a ball from Simon Doull hit the gloves. Australia, continuing from its overnight 32 for one, lost Greg Blewett for 14 and opener Matthew Elliott for 42 soon after play started. The Waughs came together at 71 for three and for the next 157 minutes piled misery onto the visitors and laid the platform for a big first innings total.Steve Waugh had his eyes on his 15th Test hundred in a 171-minute occupation of the crease. He hit nine boundaries and took a couple of blows on his right shoulder off Doull, who looked the most menacing of the five bowlers used by Fleming.SCOREBOARDNew Zealand (1st innings): 217Australia (1st innings) (overnight 32-one): Mark Taylor lbw b O'Connor 2, Matthew Elliott c O'Connor b Cairns 42, Greg Blewett c Astle b O'Connor 14, Mark Waugh c Parore b Doull 86, Steve Waugh batting 79, Ian Healy batting 3; Extras: (2b, 3lb, 4nb) 9.
