Bihar Governor Buta Singh and Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha were fumbling for answers today when they were asked why non-bailable arrest warrants against Siwan RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin had still not been executed though he was moving around freely in New Delhi. The Election Commission, which has been mounting pressure on Bihar to execute arrest warrants across the state, was taken aback yesterday when Shahabuddin showed up with an RJD delegation. Patna dailies today splashed pictures of the RJD MP at the EC.When Buta Singh was asked about the delay in the execution of non-bailable arrest warrants, he shifted the microphone towards the DGP who was sitting across the table. ‘‘No need to worry. All warrants will be executed, the process is on,’’ DGP Sinha said.Sinha questioned the motive of reporters, asking them why were they targeting only one person when there were hundreds of arrest warrants. ‘‘The warrant against the MP will be executed and it will be done soon,’’ he said and turned the microphone back towards Buta Singh.‘‘Seedhi baat hai, the law will prevail. The DGP is free to execute the arrest warrant against the MP,’’ Singh said. When reporters asked Buta Singh why had Shahabuddin, an absconder in the eyes of the law, been provided security guards, he said: ‘‘He is an honourable MP. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha directed the government to provide him security. How can the government ignore the Speaker’s order?’’Altogether six warrants of arrest are pending against the RJD MP. These have to do with cases lodged after the April 24 raid at his native village Pratappur in Siwan.EC extends Bihar orderNEW DELHI: In a bid to prevent absconders from taking part in the electoral process, the Election Commission today extended the Bihar order—to delete, from the electoral rolls, names of those who have jumped non-bailable warrants for more than six months—to all other states, and Union Territories. — ENS
