Haryana Congress President Bhajan Lal registered a major windfall today as the high command named AICC treasurer Motilal Vora as the chairman of the crucial screening committee for the distribution of tickets for the Haryana Assembly polls.
Vora is known for his proximity to Bhajan Lal. His selection is viewed as a serious setback to the other chief ministerial candidates —Bhupendra Singh Hooda, Birender Singh, Selja and Randeep Singh Surjewala.
The members of the committee are General Secretary in charge of the state Janardan Dwivedi, Congress Working Committee (CWC) member G. Venkatswamy and former Madhya Pradesh Congress president Radha Krishna Malviya.
Three state leaders —— Bhajan Lal, working president Randeep Singh Surjewala and CLP deputy leader Ajay Singh Yadav —— would be associated with the committee due to the positions held by them. The sources said the body would also take inputs from other senior leaders of the state.
Venkatswamy, a Dalit, represents the Peddapalli constituency of Andhra Pradesh in the Lok Sabha. Malviya is a close confidante of General Secretary Digvijay Singh.
Sources disclosed that some senior leaders had complained to the party high command against the composition of the committee. They suspected that Vora may favour Bhajan Lal. For Venkatswamy and Malviya, they felt that their lack of familiarity with the state could be a limiting factor.
