Ishmeet Singh, the winner of the ‘Voice of India’ contest, has fallen silent. The 19-year-old singer, who had reached the Maldives on Tuesday for a stage show, drowned in the hotel swimming pool. He was supposed to perform on July 31.Gurmeet Singh Makkar the head of Big Events, the company that handles Ishmeet’s shows, informed Ishmeet’s parents Gurpinder Singh and Amritpal Kaur of their son’s tragic death. “I have no idea what is happening. We came to know of the tragedy this evening and since then the television channels have been broadcasting the news. I really do not know what Waheguru has in store for us. Why did Waheguru do this to us is something I can not fathom,” Singh said.“Ishmeet knew how to swim and there were so many people around him all the time. How could he drown? I can not believe all this,” Ishmeet’s uncle Dr Charankamal Singh said. The young singer, who gave up his studies to pursue a career in singing, had a huge fan following across the state that included Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar. “I am too shocked to digest all this. I was supposed to join Ishmeet for the show,” said Harshit Saxena, the runner up of the Voice of India contest. On Tuesday evening a life size cutout of the young star flashing the V-sign stood smiling in the corner of the family home in Shastri Nagar as relatives, friends and fans poured in to express their condolences to the bereaved family.
