CHANDIGARH, April 28: Vivek High School outplayed St John's High School 40-73 in the mini basketball festival for under-10, which is being played at St John's High School under the aegis of Active Sports.Vivek High school lads asserted their supremacy in the match today and were leading by one point at the end of the first quarter (9-10). The lead, however, widened to 22 points at the end of the second quarter (21-43).The eventual winners also dominated the third quarter and had a big lead of 33 points when the long whistle blew.St John's lads tried to catch up with their nippy opponents in the last quarter but mis-passed on several occasion which put paid to their aspiration.On the other hand Vivek school cagers with precise and swift passes penetrated the rival defence to net the basket.Sahil Talwar and Dalip Singh scored most of the points for the winnersFor St John's School Pankaj Bakshi and Tarun Anand sunk most of the points.The tournament is being organised in both the girls and boys group.Milkha appeals`Flying Sikh' Milkha Singh has appealed to all sports lovers to extend financial assistance to former Asian Games gold medallist Parduman Singh who is struggling to meet his medical expenses after suffering from paralysis. Moved after reading a report in The Indian Express, Milkha Singh has extended an immediate financial help of Rs 10,000 to the 73-year-old bed-ridden discus and shot putter who won gold medals in the 1954 Manila Asian Games, 1958 Tokyo Asiad and 1962 Jakarta Asiad.Milkha has sent a messenger to personally hand over the cheque to Parduman. In a message to his room-mate of yesteryears, Parduman Singh, Milkha Singh prayed for the thrower's speedy recovery. He also appealed to all sports lovers to help ``Parduman Singh in his last journey of his life.'' Milkha will also personally meet Parduman Singh in his native village Bakta Bhaika in Bathinda district.``I never visualised that Parduman would be in such financial state,'' said Milkha in an emotionally-choking voice. ``As a room-mate, Parduman was a great inspiration and a partner to share jokes and memorable moments. By winning gold medals in three Asian Games, he created history,'' says Milkha.A depressed Parduman Singh, having lost all hopes of recovery, had said that he wanted to get rid of his life. A meagre pension of Rs 3,500 per month from the Army is the only source of income for Parduman.
