A day after a Special Court in Dehradun sentenced them to life imprisonment district jail authorities on Thursday withdrew all VIP facilities to former Uttar Pradesh minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani."We have withdrawn all the facilities which were earlier given to Amarmani Tripathi and his wife", said Dehradun district jail superintendent B P Pandey in Dehradun.District and sessions Judge V B Rai on Wednesday convicted the couple along with two others in the high profile poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case and sentenced them to life imprisonment under sections of 302 and 120 B of the IPC.With the withdrawal of these facilities both Tripathi and his wife who were getting VIP facilities in jail till Wednesday will now have to wear jail uniform and work like other jail inmates, Pandey said adding some work will be assigned to the former UP minister soon. The hearing of the case began in Dehradun in March this year after the CBI, which investigated the case, expressed fears that Tripathi and his wife Madhumani, the prime accused in the case, might impede a free and fair trial in their home state. The poetess was found murdered at her Lucknow residence on May 9, 2003. Madhumita, who was seven month pregnant, was murdered at the behest of Madhumani who was opposed to her affair with her husband. The slain poetess' sister Nidhi and her servant Desraj were the key witnesses in the case.
